The Meeting was called to order by President, Carl Hoge at 7:03 with 20 in attendance.
The minutes of the last meeting were read by Joe Wagner, approved by all in attendance.
Linda Galloway presented the Treasurers Report (see attached sheet). She explained the
lack of a March electric bill. Since we had paid $33/month last year, there was a slight
overage and thus the skipped month & the change to $24/month for the remainder of the
year. The vote to accept the report was unanimous.
Old Business:
a) Carl updated, the signs were installed. Within 3 days, 4 stops & the "new"
warning signs were "stolen". The County replaced the signs the next week using
concrete. Carl said that the signs were county property and thus the state would
not barcode. Carl had received an email in opposition of the stop signs. After
some discussion, it was the consensus of the group that the stop signs were
acceptable.
b) Last year 43% paid dues, to date 40.7% pay this year.
c) Carl mentioned that Bob Vietch was the webmaster of the
www.geocities.com/Archdale_Civic/ website. The www.ArchadleNews.com was
deemed not what we want.
d) Block Party/Yard Sale: Aaronette stated that the target time would be July.
Saturday 16-July is the planned Yard Sale. She will be coordinating this effort.
e) Carl stated, that it may appear that we will have some "extra" monies available to
investigate the installation of water at the main entrance. If the water line does
not have to go under the road, it should only cost about $500. Carl was going to
investigate the cost if it needs to go under the road.
f) Paving of roads: Carl informed us that the County official (Mr. Thower) did not
have funds to pave at this time. However, we (Archdale) would be near the top of
the list when they get funds.
g) Code Enforcement:
a. 102 Dorchester Ct (burnt house) – Carl had spoken with Code
Enforcement: Wanting to have this situation rectified. This is still an open
issue.
b. 135 Botany Bay – the container is gone, but now there are 2 boats in the
driveway.
c. 118 Botany Bay – garage doors are still bad, & the vinyl siding has been
partially replaced without permits and now is different colors.
d. 218 Old Dominion – is abandoned. We want to get the bank to maintain
the lawn mowing.

Crime Watch (7:45-7:57):
Norman McDonald updated us on some of the recent crimes that were reported in
the newsletter. We have 2 new Crime Watch signs that have been installed. Norman has
researched the cost of more signs and discovered that different signs are available
cheaper around $35/sign. The new "Ray Nash" signs are $48/sign. Norman would like
to have 12 signs to be distributed around the neighborhood. Norman asked for $600 to be
used to get the signs & some printed material for the block capitans. Ed Davis mentioned
that the tax laws do not allow the purchase of "Crime Watch" stuff in order to maintain
"not-for-profit" status. Thus, Carl made the motion to "set aside" the $600 for Crime
Watch. This was approved by all in attendance, no opposition voiced.
New Business (7:57):
a) Carl announced that "Lawns by Design" will not be mowing after 31-May-05.
Lightning Grounds Maintenance owned by David Furguson will be taking over in
June. The cost was slightly more per month, but it was considered a much better
value for the total services that we would receive. Carl told Linda to only pay
Lawns by Design for 2/3 of the May bill due to only mowing 2 times.
b) Carl mentioned that the flowers need replacing at the main entrance. This
prompted Kris Herold to volunteer her services to help in the upkeep of the main
area. It was decided that Saturday 11-Jun at 9:00 there will be a Boulevard
cleanup day and put out new pine straw. It was decided that there would be 150
bales delivered that morning for distribution.
c) Carl thanked John Bowling for painting the Archdale sign at the main entrance.
Joe Wagner will be gathering more information concerning the repair and upkeep
of the street signs.
d) Carl mentioned that the Dorchester Corridor Coalition of Neighborhoods (DCCN)
would like us to support the new zoning ordinance for the Ashley River corridor.
They are afraid more homes west of the Ashley will put even more traffic on
Dorchester Road.
e) Carl mentioned that the Kings Grant community would like as much help as
possible in the defense of the covenants.
f) Jackie O’Riley volunteered to take over the remaining portion of Josh Petersen’s
board position. All in attendance approved.
g) Yard waste pickup: It was noted that the Suburban Company has been delinquent
in yard waste pickup this spring. Carl stated for anyone having problems to call
Suburban in order to get it documented.
h) Carl reviewed some of the other miscellaneous emails that he has received over
the past 2 months.
i) Ed Davis mentioned that the ARFD board elections will be on the 3
rd Thursday ofJune.
j) Len Christakos asked if there would be any changes at Waverly Place since there
has been a change in management, such as paying dues or change in grounds
upkeep.
Next General meeting will be August 25, 2005, 7pm at the Fire Dept.
Next board meeting will be Monday, June 20 at 7pm at Carl’s.
