Special DORCHESTER CORRIDOR COALITION Meeting
January 8th

The following important message has been posted per request from our Treasurer and Dorchester Road Corridor Coalition representative Jim Lantry. This meeting will impact the beauty of Dorchester Road for years to come.

Hello Archdale Residents! Happy New Year! I have been asked by the Dorchester Corridor Coalition to pass along this information regarding the county's attempt to guide growth along Dorchester Rd, Old Orangeburg Rd, and several other major roads in our end of Dorchester County. The new mandates are similar to those being implemented by North Charleston along their section of Dorchester Rd. and are meant to promote sensible development. One only has to watch as N. Charleston now tries to improve the lower (developed) end of Dorchester Rd to understand the pressing need for planned growth. Opponents will be out in force. If you can attend the 7pm council meeting, please do, so that we may show our support for this ordinance. Below is the message being forwarded by the coalition (which includes the following homeowners associations: Kings Grant, Whitehall, Indigo, Old Fort, and Coosaw Creek).

DORCHESTER CORRIDOR COALITION SPECIAL REQUEST TO RESIDENTS IN THE DORCHESTER ROAD CORRIDOR

We have a Transitional Overlay District (TOD) Zoning Ordinance amendment to support at the JAN 8, 2001 County Planning Development and Building Committee 5:15 PM Public Hearing meeting and the 7 PM County Council Meeting.

The TOD amendment will provide for 50' Vegetation Buffers and other development controls for Dorchester, Ashley Phosphate, Ladson, and other main roads in the unincorporated county areas. See 12/27 Summerville Journal for more detail.

WE NEED COMMUNITY SUPPORT AT THE 5:15 PM COUNTY PLANNING DEVELOPMENT AND BUILDING (PDB) COMMITTEE MEETING AND 7 PM COUNCIL MEETING ON JAN 8. Please come and bring a neighbor to fill the Summerville county chambers on JAN 8 at these 2 meetings to indicate support by your presence. The location is Main Street and HWY 78.

For more information, call Jim Lantry at 552-8092 or email to jwlantry@aol.com

Meeting Summary

The guest speaker at the November 28th meeting was Charles Miller, Planning and Codes Director. Mr Miller discussed the planned changes along the Dorchester Road corridor in an effort to prevent it from looking like Rivers Avenue. Building permits requirement were also discussed. Building permits are required for any improvement or repair to you house if the cost of the improvement exceeds about $700 or for any out-building in excess of 100 square feet.

The Archdale Civic Association property on Knightsbridge (across from the Historical Site) is under consideration of being sold to an Archdale Resident. The decision was tabled until the next meeting due to a lack of important information. The individual interested in purchasing the lot must provide the ACA a letter of intent. A detailed plat showing the property must also be provided at the next meeting.

The next Archdale Civic Association meeting will be held at the Ashley River Fire Department sometime in Febrauary. This is an important meeting since the Board Members and Officers for 2001 will be elected. If you are interested in making Archdale a better place to live, suggest you volunteer a little bit of your time and volunteer for a position on the board.

Special THANKS
(November 2000)

A big special thanks to those who volunteered at the Boulevard Cleanup on October 7th. Most are part of the same dedicated crew that shows up at every clean-up, but there were some very WELCOMED new faces too. Flowers were planted, pine straw spread, limbs trimed, and trashed picked up. Please give a big Thank You to: The Kohl Family (Eric, Linda, Stephanie and Jessica), Jim Llantry, the family on Roxbury (Mike, Josh, and Dakota), Jeff Llang, Len Christakos, Joe and Nathon Wagner, John Hill, and any one else I forgot to write down (sorry, but I was busy working too.) The best Thank You that can be given to these folks, is to come out and help at the next clean-up.
